چکیده

Background: In acute stroke patients, mild and moderate hypothermia with a body temperature (T core) target of 32 °C to 34 °C has been tested with some promising results. Clinicians have been increasingly using therapeutic hypothermia to prevent or control various types of neurological injury. In this review study we evaluate the current clinical evidence regarding the use of therapeutic hypothermia. Methods: A review of the literature was conducted using PubMed database. Results: Various cooling techniques and devices have been developed and assessed for the treatment of acute stroke patients. The efficacy of these new methods and devices has been demonstrated in many preliminary studies. Conclusions: Regarding the findings of this survey, hypothermia can cause unwanted side-effects, thus further research is needed to conduct quantified risk assessments as well as therapeutic benefits assessment of hypothermia.

Impact of Mild Hypothermia on the Recovery of Patients with Acute Stroke

Background and Objective: Hypothermia induction has been proposed to improve the recovery process of stroke in the last two decades. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mild hypothermia on the recovery of patients with acute stroke. Materials and Methods: This single-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted on 60 patients with acute stroke in 2018 in Hamadan,...

Safety and feasibility of intravenous thrombolytic therapy in Iranian patients with acute ischemic stroke

Background: Thrombolytic therapy is the only approved treatment for acute cerebral ischemia. The hemorrhagic transformation is the greatest complication of this treatment, which may occur after recanalization of occluded artery. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with clinical improvement and worsening in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous th...

Therapeutic hypothermia after recanalization in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Therapeutic hypothermia improves outcomes in experimental stroke models, especially after ischemia-reperfusion injury. We investigated the clinical and radiological effects of therapeutic hypothermia in acute ischemic stroke patients after recanalization. METHODS A prospective cohort study at 2 stroke centers was performed. We enrolled patients with acute ischemic strok...

Delayed combination therapy of local brain hypothermia and decompressive craniectomy on acute stroke outcome in rat

Objective(s):Hypothermia and decompressive craniectomy (DC) have been shown to be neuroprotective. This study was designed to evaluate neuroprotective effects of delayed singular or combination of DC and local hypothermia on stroke. Materials and Methods: Cerebral ischemia was induced in 48 Wistar rats assigned to 4 groups: control, decompressive craniectomy (DC), local hypothermia (LH), combin...

Therapeutic hypothermia for acute ischemic stroke.

Intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator remains the only US FDA-approved treatment for acute ischemic stroke. However, the very limited time window for its administration restricts its usefulness. Furthermore, it is becoming increasingly clear that, given the numerous pathways via which cerebral ischemia causes cell death, the capacity to inhibit multiple mechanisms simultaneously ...
